Admittedly, I was clueless about "the Yogas" when I first started my practice. And yes, I thought yogis were a bunch of head in the clouds, peace and love spewing, white middle-aged herbivores.
Approaching my 4th year of practicing yoga and 3rd year of teaching, I can comfortably say that the common misconceptions about yogis are in fact misconceptions. Especially in this ever transforming world we are living in, things no longer fit into a pretty, little box. I ran across this post on The Yoga Journal eloquently written by Erin Motz, co-founder of Bad Yogi, and it accurately debunks the most popular myths about Yogis. I was going to write my own mythbusters (probably still will, for I have more to add), but since I agree with her comebacks, why not instead just reblog? Click the above photo if you're interested in reading the article, and start removing assumptions (if you have any) about yogis and the Yoga world.
